The Drew Michael Artist Fellowship Fund

To Create Artist Residencies at the Anchorage Museum

Artist Drew Michael (Yup’ik and Inupiaq) believes in supporting the work of artists. He hopes his legacy includes assisting other artists who work to convey the rich cultural landscape of the North. Although he has committed a gift to the Museum Foundation in his will, Michael seeks to establish a fund in the Anchorage Museum Endowment that will help other artists now.

By establishing the Drew Michael Artist Fellowship Fund, Michael seeks to make it possible for one or two artists from the Circumpolar North, or who are otherwise embedded and engaged in the North, each year to spend time in residence at the Anchorage Museum.

The Fund is to support artists who:

  1. Demonstrate an interest in protecting and activating the culture of the North

  2. Connect people, place and ritual.

  3. Engage Alaskans and visitors in viewing the world, the environment and the future in new ways

While in residence, the selected artists will be provided a stipend to support their time, research or other expenses. Artists will have access to and assistance from Anchorage Museum staff, and connections to other artists, researches, curators and communities in support of their work.

It will take $100,000 to create this fund in the Museum’s endowment (a permanent savings account) so that it can earn enough interest to fund one to two artist residencies each year.

You can support Drew Michael’s vision and help make this fund possible by making a gift to the Anchorage Museum Foundation (a registered Alaska nonprofit) designated for the Drew Michael Artist Fellowship Fund.

Ways to Give to the Drew Michael Artist Fellowship Fund:

  1. - Make a gift today of $250 or more.
